Coach Trifone was inducted into the FCIAC Hall of Fame in 2014. George Albano from the Hour Newspaper wrote the following:
During his time on Highland Avenue, the fourth head football coach in BMHS history became the Senators’ all-time winningest coach with 140 victories, while leading the program to back to back FCIAC titles in 1994 and ’95, and the school’s only state championship in football with a 12-0-0 team in ’94.
“I loved those years at Brien McMahon and I loved those kids,” Trifone said 48 hours before his Hall of Fame induction. “No question, the Senators were a huge part of my life. They always have been.”
Ever since Rob Trifone received that distinguished award the Blue Wave football team has been on one of the most successful runs in Connecticut football history. Starting in the fall of 2015 with a 12-0, FCIAC & State Championship season, Darien has had the highest winning percentage in Connecticut going 46-3 over that time span while claiming 4 straight divisional championships, 2 FCIAC league titles, 3 State Championships and became only the 2nd team in Connecticut history to be named the # 1 Team in Connecticut 3 years in a row (Cheshire is the only other team).
Coach Trifone enters the 2019 season with a career record of 241-84-2 (.741 winning %).
If the 16-time coach of the year wins 9 more games he will reach yet another milestone at 250 career victories putting him in 6th place in all time Connecticut football coaching history. It is also ironic that in the top 10 of the winningest Connecticut High School Coaches that the top 2 in winning percentage are Lou Marinelli of New Canaan (.755%) and Rob Trifone (.741%).
From Highland Ave to Hall of Fame and now on High School Road, Coach Rob Trifone is looking forward to once again lead a group of very committed young men on the grid iron this coming fall.
Go Blue Wave!
